Kicked out of Ask/Teoma

Recently i found out that i am no longer in the Index of Teoma/Ask. I rank very good in any other search engine and wonder what kind of reasons they have to drop a site.

I did emailed them, and that their reply was, well standard bla bla, and that i should concider PFI.

..are they slowly dropping free sites and push PFI or just coincidence?

Not in my experience. Teoma is crawling much more aggresively and including a lot more content for free.

Disappearing on one engine while ranking on others is a common experience. You could replace Teoma by Yahoo, MSN or even Google and lots of people would say the same thing.

They rank well on all other engines but don't rank anywhere on search engine x.

Teoma has a significantly better algo than other engines (IMO) for finding on topic sites but it is also quite different. What works on others may not work on Teoma (and vice-versa).

I think ASK dropped PFI all together to be more fair. It was a big announcement right after Y! started their Site Match.

Ask has imploded. No other way to put it. They crawl nothing except some sites that they crawl to death. Pages that haven't existed for nine months show in the results, but they lose entire domains of active pages. What was once a great engine is now worthless.

This is not the case. Site Submit - the per URL version of Paid Inclusion - is still availble. Ask Jeeves announced they would be stopping trusted feed.

Seems cheaper than a years worth of PPC. I'm doing it with Ask.co.uk and following up with a UK targetted AdWords Campaign. Nice...

IMHO, not with this group. They are doing a better job of crawling and indexing a newer site that was never PFI'd than with the sites that were paid for.

At the risk of having my site(s) dropped, I have to agree. I only ever paid for inclusion in LookSmart and Yahoo ONCE ... several years ago. I have never paid for anything since.

Neither one of those moves did me much good. I am a firm believer that once you pay to play in today's market ... your site is marked. Stop paying and you'll feel the wrath.

Actually no, it is there fault if they don't want a good informational site in their index, and not mine, and with their relative small market share i am not too worried (yet).
