Ask Jeeves Intro's "Famous People Search"

Is this a brilliant idea?

AJ now has a Famous Person Search [static.wc.ask.com].

Should help people doing their homework on famous people.

On the other hand, it seems like the zeitgeist search roundups are dominated by celebrity searches.

Good move or bad move?

I did some test searches. I don't see what the big deal is. I can accomplish the same thing by typing the name into the searchbox.

Am I missing something?

hmm. mispellings of female celebrity names still pulls out the usual Adult industry sites.

whoopee. this thread just doubled their average unique visitors. ;)

It doesn't work. I typed my name in there and got nothing and I am a famous Adult Film Star.

Sigh... my domain continues to now have only one page indexed, but Jeeves in its non-brilliance continues to show celebrity pictures that were removed from my domain seven months ago.

Oh great, more hits to 404 pages from Jeeves now.

What I find the most annoying is that I've been online since around 1995 - 1996, I have a book that's been published, I have written articles on various subjects, etc...

But when I do a "vanity search" (ask.com, Google, wherever) the top two results are my FATHER's cheesy real estate site, which has only been online for a year, and an argument I had in like 1998 with a spammer which he archived on his page.

What the heck is that all about?

I type in my name and it brings up listing of my personal site which has info about me. As far as I know, having my own web site is about as much fame as I have.

Doing the search in Ask.com brings up identical results.

What is different? It appears, nothing!

I can identify with this. During my site's initial few weeks we underwent a few URL changes (not good, I know), and ask is the only place which continuously, to this day, sends people to the old pages, months after they had gone. Do they not re-crawl often, or something?
