Does somebody know how Directhit count the click-through?
I noticed that the listings are similar to the those showed on MSN Search.
How can you improve it? From what search engine your site should be clicked? (MSN? Hotbot?)
Another important question: how does DH count the time an user stick to the site? For example if an user clicks a site and immediately clicks the back bottom to the browser returning to the search engine , does this penalize the future ranking of that site?
What happen if after that an user click your site and immediately afeter that click he switch to another site without returning to MSN or HOT BOT?
Thank you.

>does this penalize the future ranking of that site?
It could, but there are problems with that methodology that leads me to believe it is used more to rank sites higher than lower.
I am considering to email several friends inviting them to visit my website, once a day, for several days, to see how those click will influence the ranking on DH.
From what search engine do you suggest to start (Hot Bot, Lycos or DH itself?).
How long they should stick to the site?
Should they return to the searchengine after the suggest period of time?
Should the surfer stick to that browser window or can the surfer open other windows so thaht he/she is not forced to lose time remaining to that site?
Thank you.

There is a brief explaination of how DirectHit works in this White Paper [directhit.com], worth a read even though it is mainly a PR piece.
I had a look at the article, but I did not find answers to my doubts.
Which is the best entry search engine for DH?
How long visitors should stick to the targeted site?
Sould the visitors return back to the search engine after their long visit?
Does DH use cookies? I did not find any cookies from them.

I am posting again:
Which is the best entry search engine for DH?
(which is the best source to be considered in their algo: Hot Bot, MSN, Lycos).
How long visitors should stick to the targeted site?
Sould the visitors return back to the search engine after their long visit?
Does DH use cookies?
Having a paid listing on GOTO (that show on Hot Bot and Lycos), this will influence the DH Algo?
Please give suggestions..!

Completely at their whim. From a week to 60 days. All depends on how they update.
Under competitive keywords, you will need atleast 100 click throughs a day to have any effect. They must be done from a unique IP address (dupes are thrown out) and they must accept the cookie. If at hobot, you must accept the current url code.
I'm listed on direct hit for keyword y, and i do a search for keyword y. I click the link, go through the site a few pages, accept the cookie.
Then I come back a little while later, via IP address B, where as the first time, I had IP address A. I click the link, accept the cookie, and then move through the site.
Repeat enough times, for competitive keyword y, and I'll move up in rankings...how often does direct hit update based on their click throughs? is it dynamic, weekly, daily, or???
Thanks for the info, and if I've recapped in error, please let me know.

The site I was speaking about is one of the leading site for the targeted keywords.
It scores now at position 10 to 15 in DH for several targeted keywords. Our goal is to be in the first 3 - 4 listings. Unfortunaly it has been only few weeks that we are scoring fine on MSN for targeted keywors. So that we have to gain that gap.
I think that nobody here is thinking about site useless!!
I think that everybody here are looking for suggestions to place you in the top.
It is like the Formula 1: everybody adjust all the small details to arrive first.
I wouldn't had considered to be in the first three or four position on DH (being listed in the first os second page), but on some search engines you get only the first three four listing from DH.

BTW, these new Direct Hit listing have brought a lot of new increased traffic which now ranks right behind the directories in referrers from searches.
