old domain with newly indexed pages

I have a site where new pages are being added to Ask but it's somehow associating them with an old (switched to current domain 9 months ago) domain name.

Does anyone know how to get this fixed? I can't figure it out how it's scanning my site and sucking up pages like mad but has this old domain associated with these pages. The pages in question were never on the old domain either which is strange to me.

Any help would be appreciated on how to get this corrected.

Have you set the 301 redirect from the old domain to new one. Perhaps some pages still provide links to your old domain and Ask is crawling them. Or perhaps, it disobeys 301's just like inktomi does.

well the old domain is long gone so how would i setup 301's? If you go to the domain directly it's unavailable. It's no longer in DNS and is not hosted and I don't even own it anymore as I let the renewal expire.

That's what I can't figure out.

I would guess that teoma/aj still have it on their systems, probably worth email-ing AJ, and asking for a purge of the old site domain from there cycle DB.

It's my experience that, of all the engines with "major" pretensions, Teoma is the slowest to get rid of old pages. Right now, only WiseNut is slower to update than Teoma.

With other engines, you could make sure the discontinued page is giving a 404 and then resubmit... but Teoma has no free submission.

This is the right way to do it if you're moving rather than discontinuing a domain, or moving pages, but 301s seem to confuse Teoma even more than just dropping the page. It's almost as though Teoma considers the redirect some kind of proof that the original url is still alive. They eventually do drop pages and change listings, but I've seen it take longer than 6 months.

I'd do whatever you have to do for your visitors, and for Google and Inktomi, and figure that Teoma will eventually catch on.
