Interesting,

Wonder what this will do to Ask Jeeves - Direct Hit relationship?

Ask Jeeves will integrate Teoma’s search technology across its Web Properties, currently the 17th most visited Web property with more than 14 million unique users per month. Additionally, Ask Jeeves will operate Teoma.com, which is currently in beta, as a stand-alone Web property, maintaining the site as a pure search engine.

I am curious about the marketing efforts they will deploy for it.

Qwest was backing Teoma, I expect their recent financial returns may be related to this sell-off.

This will certainly improve the quality of Ask, which I always had the impression was too much concentrating on promoting large sites, often of commercial nature (buy this!) rather than informative.

They never were able to index my site, even though it is n.1 on Google for the specific keyword, is included in Dmoz.org and Ask has indexed a page that links to mine

Since I am also n.1 on Teoma for the same keyword as in Google, I look forward to get something from this move

I am completely out of the SE loop today, but huh?? This is really a surprise.

My hunch is that another billion pages makes Teoma at least the 2nd best search engine, Jeeves or no Jeeves.

Well I hope Teoma can maintain editorial and systematic control of the results. If they can, I don't think there is anything to worry about. The deal could put much needed cash into Teoma for systems to expand.

what did they pay for them?
Not sure if a stock-based purchase will be much of a payday to the hardworking boys from Piscattaway, NJ ...
