Teoma Out Crawling

Looks like the Teoma spiders are out wandering around this morning.

They have been all over one of my sites for the last three days.

Now that you've mentioned it, (and now I've bothered to check the logs) they seem to be crawling quite comprehensively.

IMHO Teoma itself is an impressive but under-used alternative to Google, offering far quicker searching but unfortunately, a significantly smaller index.

Perhaps this spate of activity is the lead up to what could ultimately be a serious Google competitor?

What interested me was the update at Teoma and then a nice deep crawl. They are setting up a schedule like google. I will have to say that it is a really relevent index this update. I get all my traffic from ask. Teoma really needs a marketing plan to get their name out there.

Have relevant results, deep crawl the Internet... I wonder if I'd do those things if some mega-behemoth corporation like, oh, Microsoft might be in the market for a new search partner?

Isn't their spider teomaagent? I don't show a visit from that all last year, but I show in the results just fine. Does it go by any other name? (Not DNS numbers, I don't have raw logs only stinky urchin stats.)

I've got Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; Ask Jeeves/Teoma) showing recently, although I'm sure Teoma's spider used to identify as TeomaAgent.

I could be barking up the wrong tree though - anyone know differently?

I was under the impression it was AskJeeves bot or something with AskJeeves in the name. Could be wrong though and I'm too tired to check.
