i'm not convinced that teoma is sufficiently up to scratch to be a worthwhile replacement for google.

Depends if iLOR is paying Google for results and if Ask Jeeves is now paying iLOR then the financial model could work.

I expect Teoma DB to grow over the next few months and search quality in Teoma seems pretty good at the moment.

hmm...very interesting.

I'd kill to know what incentive iLOR had to do this. I can't imagine that with the current state of the Ask Jeeves-Teoma-Direct Hit product that they would make the change from Google.

My guess is Ask Jeeves must have something up their sleeves for the not-so-distant future.

I think it has to do with money...wouldn't it make sense for Teoma/Ask to offer a revenue share of the paid inclusion fees to those who use their db? Isn't this something like what Ink/Fast do?

Perhaps I'm confused, but I see it as a move towards revenue for a site which probably doesn't have enough traffic to gain enough advertisers to make the 'provide it for free' deal work. Though I will admit, they have neat gizmos...just imho.

Though I will say, if they want more users, they should stick with google...their download uses google, or any engine, or something, according to that link...so perhaps it also could be seen as a move to try and get users to download their hyrdralinks product? Hmm.

I used Ilor mainly as a research tool for checking Google links... not completely the same database, but close enough. It was very fast to use.

It would be nice if Google serps, in addition to "cached" and "similar pages," would include a "show links" link, as Ilor did.

For a meta search I think they are. I'm not a huge fan of Ilor since they a browser bigots.
