I currently hold the #1 spot over the trademark of a pharmaceutical on both Teoma and Askjeeves. While I get tons of hits on this search term from Google and msn.com, hits from Teoma are near non-existent, and Askjeeves rather rare. Neither search engine seems to get a lot of use.
Have to agree with you. Have top positions in Teoma and see minimal traffic compared to Google, MSN etc. Seriously doing a re-think about its worth as a paid inclusion engine. So much for Teoma planning to take on Google. Who really uses it?
I have one site that is now getting 5% of its SE traffic from AskJeeves with the occasional stray hit from Teoma. On that site AJ is beating FAST/ATW. And its growing. :)
AJ is gaining a market with popular subjects and end consumers. In my case on popular movie topics.
All the keywords we targeted on Google have been picked up by Teoma with much less effort than it took us on Google. If we had the same placement on Google as we do on Teoma I would be headhunted from here to Australia.
PS- AJ can bring in some great traffic- if you are selected as their chosen link for a particular keyword. But then I wonder if some AJ users are able to even use the online ordering form- where else is one of the most popular searches "where can I find www.example.com?"
On b2b sites though, forget it!
Anyone else noticed this??
Certainly on top key terms, there is a lot of similarities between the results Teoma presents and that of G SERPS. Furthermore, unlike the grouping of two site urls by Google for a relevant term if enough related pages are available, The algo, ranks in a similar fashion to ATW.com, in which results from a site regarding relevancy of pages to the keyterm, associated by the algo are distributed across the SERPs.
How the algo is determining relevance and its SERPs for pages, is most definetly getting better, and if they can keep up the momentum creating more relevant algo's, then i think some of the big SE's, better watch their backs.
Nice to see a little competition, certainly on the relevancy scales
They also changed the search interface. It was like this:
http://s.teoma.com/search.asp?t=searchterm
http://s.teoma.com/search?q=searchterm
And they still use IIS 5.0. Anyone gonna buy them an Apache? ;)
Until the next update, by which point computers will probably no longer be in use. :)
Seems like AJ fed by Teoma is doing fairly well considering that Teoma only came out of beta 6 - 9 months ago.
Short of a major (and expensive) television advertising campaign no new search engine is going to gain an instant market share. It takes time to grow. They must be doing something right.
