Vietnamese Translation Software Needed

what is available for automatic site translation?

Hi,
have site built that translates to several languages. Vietnamese is not so good. have software Vietnamese people don't like. Need something like Babel Fish or software that is more than a dictionary to preferably translate on demand by the user.

I looked around thru all of my online translation resources and came up with zero. I see what you mean...there are only a few Vietnamese dictionary type programs out there. I didn't see anything like Babel that offered machine translations.

If you're serious about doing business with native Vietnamese speakers though I'd suggest that you look for a translation company and get the work done by a native speaking human translator. Regardless of how handy those online translation services may look, especially the free ones, the results are generally very poor. It is my opinion that if you rely on services like that to do business it will reflect poorly on you. Online machine translations are still in their infancy and generally only should be used as a last resort.

I appreciate your help Bill. I agree with your conclusion, also. The mechanical translations I have proof read by a speaker of the language and find many errors. (so many dialects) As for paying for a service, my time is volunteered. This is a senior center with no income and very little city support. I wish I could do more for them. They can't communicate with relatives or utilise the Internet for medical, legal, etc. So sad. Thanks for the try mwf

Hey mwf don't give up on it, if you need a human to translate for you I'm sure that someone, somewhere would be happy to help. Tap the commuinity you are targeting, get the word out and see if anyone steps forward.

Thanks for the encouragement. We have humans but they are old. We lose them or they loose the energy. Trying to find a technological approach is probably a matter of bad timing. I am just giving it a shot. thanks mwf

Like everyone else said mwf don't give up yet... Maybe you could tap some of the Vietnamese student associations [dolphin.upenn.edu] around the US to see if anyone would be willing to help.

My fingers are crossed and a few other things, hey what. I hadn't thought of student help. Silicon Valley colleges have lots and at Barnes and Noble on Stevens Creek, I have talked to many students. Some are saying "what he talkin about". Just local geography.
