Hi,
Researching what share of the search market Overture has and which ad partners are on board. Any ideas where to start? Thanks in advance.

Ade :)

Well, that's a little vague. What kind of market are you looking for? Yahoo!, like all sites, has certian demographic segments that describe the user base. As I recall from a study done a year or so ago Yahoo skews slightly female, but less so than MSN, Yahoo! users have less online tenure and less education and are younger than Google users and there are more Yahoo! users than either Google or MSN users but they each use the internet less often than Google users. Clear as mud, you say? Sorry about that, my memory isn't quite exact.

I'm not sure how useful knowing the aggregate share of search market is to marketers, unless you happen to sell everything. I'm sure that value is available somewhere though. As an advertiser I wouldn't ignore any major site that's as easy to use as Yahoo! or Google.

Hi -
I'm looking to work out the total traffic that is created by certain keywords by using the Overture keyword Assistant. If I know the % of searches that Overture accounts for in the UK I can then work out a rough total number of searches per month :)

Well, there are some competitive intelligence tools out there that will help you with that, but they can cost a lot of money. For a question like yours, I'd recommend experimentation for a while until you know the industry. Experience and experimentation are valuable teachers.

I would say that Overture's partners account for 30-40% of web searches, but this does vary from industry to industry. However, when the lose MSN, and this is happening from now, their share should drop 10-15%.

Thanks for the info - really interesting. Will it will be around 10-15% even though Yahoo are on board?
