"Search Technology Provided by Google"
The results are also different from google.
I also searched at Yahoo! Canada and it's still using google results. But Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com) isn't using google results anymore.
Web page matches logo on Yahoo Canada (ca.yahoo.com) = Powered by google
Web page matches logo on Yahoo (www.yahoo.com) = Search Technology Provided by Google
This means Yahoo! will be using the google technology but not the results from the actual google index. My guess is that they bought their algorithm and will be creating their own index.
If you look closely at the search results, if a site is inside Yahoo! it will provide the Yahoo! description and the directory. If they were looking for a new partner, do you really think they would've made all those modifications? I don't think so.
This is the web pages search results for cars:
[google.yahoo.com...]
now compare the same results with google.com
[google.com...]
Same page 9/1/2002 [help.yahoo.com]
Web Page MatchesThese results show web pages and sites that match your search. These results are provided to Yahoo! by Google's search engine
Based on what I can see so far, I agree w/ NoCarrier.

This would solve Yahoo's "competitor-building" problem.
Hello Heini, Ok, I tested something. I wanted to compare both index. The one from Yahoo! and the one from google. Below are the results.
Term searched : baseball
Google results :
[google.com...]
Web page matches
[google.yahoo.com...]
I will compare both results with their rank
First one is Yahoo! the second one will be google.
1 -
Yahoo : [mlb.com...]
Google : www.mlb.com/
2-
Yahoo: [majorleaguebaseball.com...]
Google : www.majorleaguebaseball.com/
3 -
Yahoo: [espn.com...]
Google: www.espn.com/
4 -
Yahoo: [baseball-links.com...]
Google: www.baseball-links.com
5 -
Yahoo : [baseball-reference.com...]
Google : www.baseballamerica.com/today/ <------- NOT THE SAME LINK!
6 -
Yahoo : [baseballamerica.com...]
Google : www.baseball-reference.com/ <------- NOT THE SAME LINK!
This means that Yahoo! is no longer using the live google index (www.google.com)
Another proof :
Yahoo! Canada is still using the LIVE google index.
Same search : baseball
Both have the same index.
[ca.google.yahoo.com...]
[google.com...]
I agree with Heini. Looks like the same results, except in the case of a clustered result on google, the second listing is dropped.
Server is still the same, google.yahoo.com. My hunch is they're sticking with google.
I don't have any Yahoo! listings, but was thinking about it purely because of what it could potentially do for my Google listed sites. If, in the future, Yahoo! "goes alone" does it still make sense to spend $300.00 on possibly getting a yahoo listing?
I realize this is all speculation.... I'm just trying to "view the many paths".
Yes, I understand what you mean. I just find it really strange that since the google logo link (powered by google) changed to "Search Technology Provided by Google" on the web page matches for www.yahoo.com, that the index is also different (it's not the live results that's for sure).
And also that Yahoo! Canada wich STILL have the google logo (powered by google) is using the live google index.
FAST trading chart [ose.no]
LOL!? FAST!? I know there have been speculations and rumors about it, but we are talking about the google results now. I think that Yahoo! bought the google technology but they won't be using the live google results from google.com
Don't expect them to change to FAST.
What is it with all that FAST speculation!? It was only rumors. As you can see, the search results are still the google index. Although not from the live one. They modified the index so that when a site inside the index is also inside the Yahoo! directory it will display the Yahoo! description and also give the Yahoo! directory.
They *actually* made modifications to this index. If they were going to change partner in the near future, I really doubt they would've made those changes.
Hi and welcome to WebmasterWorld. [webmasterworld.com], NoCarrier.
Did you ever noticed before, some slight differences between Y!.ca, www2.sympatico (both feeding from Google) and the real Google index, in time? It could just be one of these...
Also, do you like poutine? ;)
Thanks :)
"Did you ever noticed before, some slight differences between Y!.ca, www2.sympatico (both feeding from Google) and the real Google index, in time?"
Actually no, I just verified and both are using the google results from (www.google.com). They also both have the Powered by google logo.
"Also, you like poutine?"
Hahaha.. Yeah. I like poutine. But once in a while only ;) Fries, cheese and gravy has a million calories I think :)
Hey! I just read your profile and you live in Montreal. LOL! Come on.. You also like Poutine I guess.
There are a few bit and bobs around that support this, other than just the change of phrase. For instance, the adding (without charge) of extra commercial sites to the Yahoo directory over the last few weeks.
I wondered about that. It could be they were bolstering their directory in the areas they thought it was weak (the new sites certainly did that).
I would also improve the odds now of TWO providers: Google providing the 'technology' for ranking the directory pages; another SE providing the backfills (Ink/FAST/Google).
Either way, it looks to me like the chances of Google still having some presence in the Yahoo camp are higher than they were yesterday.
