Hi, i submitted one of my websites to Yahoo! UK & Ire a few months ago and in my inbox this morning i had a email from Yahoo! with subject "Yahoo! UK/Ireland Listing" i nearly fell off my chair. But when i opened it, to cut a long story short they told me i had to pay via Yahoo! Express because they think my site is a commercial product or service.

The site in question is a free website submission service, does this count as a commercial product, isn't it a non-profit service.

I've included a copy of the email:

Hi,

The web site URL you suggested belongs to a company or a
commercial product or service. The site should be suggested to the
Yahoo! UK & Ireland directory via the Yahoo! Express program.

We require all commercial sites to be suggested through our fee-based
"Yahoo! Express" program. This program guarantees that within seven
business days an editor will review your site and tell you whether or
not it has been added to the directory.

Please take the time to resubmit this site using the Yahoo! Express
option.

To learn more about "Yahoo! Express," please visit

Thank you,

The Yahoo! Directory Team

Hi NickG,

The boundary between commercial and non-commercial in Yahoo is very dodgy - it depends on the editor that reviews the site.

If you've already been denied, it'll be difficult for you to get the site listed.

My suggestion is always to clean up your site before you submit. Once it's listd, editors rarely check - then you can add whatever you want to it.
