Requesting Description Change

Yikes!

Over the last several years I have sucessfully changed my entire site description at Y! twice. Since they started charging a fee for commercial listings, I have been extremely hesitant to even ask, fearing that they would drop me as a non-paying dead beat, but I did in fact have one word added to my description sucessfully about 6 months ago.

Recent content changes have significantly affected what users will now find at my site, so in order to not mislead those who find me through Y!, I have taken the leap and requested a total description change/update.

Having completed the request form, I sat with my index finger cautiously suspended over the Enter key like a young high-diver looking down at the pool below. I'm enjoying a healthy number of hits from Y! second only to Google and I don't really wish to mess that up, but for the sake of information integrity, I took the plunge.

Maybe I loose the Y! listing, maybe ranking, but at least my site is not misrepresented in it's description - or the more likely scenario: the editor(s) will just ignore the request and nothing will happen, in which case I will be back atop the diving board in three weeks!

I agree with your likely scenario. I have a site that has a cctld which does very well at Y!. The only problem is that the registrar looks like it has gone under and I can't renew.

I have attempted to change the URL of my listing at Y!. As I anticipated, nothing has happened. (It has been a couple of months). I guess that if the site goes 404, I can pay again for a new listing. (This would be VERY bad because the listing pre-dates recurring fees).

Please keep us posted as to the outcome of your change request.

keyplyr - This is a question I asked at the beginning of the year when it was too early for an answer, and I haven't followed it up and tried submitting a change, so I too am awaiting results of your experiment. Old thread here [webmasterworld.com].

Firstly, let me state that to an extent I can understand why some search engines have PFI (pay for inclusion). However, how can they ask for us to pay to change our description. Surely it is in their interest that we update our description to keep it relevant. If we don't people will get bad SERP's and stop using their search engine.

Chris.

I actually used this arguement with L$ and they changed my description for FREE
