I'm in Google (by far my biggest traffic boost)
I'm in Lycos
I'm in Excite
I'm in FAST
I'm in Looksmart
I'm in Inktomi
I'm in Overture.com (how the heck did THEY find me??)
I'm in ODP
But Yahoo? Pffftttttttttt.....
It's been six months, with several submissions made but still I haven't been listed.
Since my site is non-commercial, I'm wondering if I should invest in the 300 dollar fee to ensure my site will at least be looked at, but if I do that I may be required to pay $300 a year just to stay indexed, even though I'm non-commercial.
I'm wondering if I should just forget about Yahoo, because I have this bad feeling in the back of my head that if I continue to try to get listed, I WILL get listed, but three days later they'll close the directory forever. I have the impression that Yahoo would kill off their directory service if they could. Who knows, maybe Im just paranoid...
Not at all.
>I'm fairly sure there is a general agreement that if you don't pay them you won't get in.
I have had two non-commercial sites listed, one in the local Y which only took a few weeks, the other to the general Y which took 9 months.

The site that just got in was submitted March, May and September last year. I was just starting to think about resubmitting when it appeard in the directory out of the blue.
Patience is the name of the game with non-com submissions. Is it worth the wait, absolutely. The increase in traffic and secondary listings from other sites that find you through Y is worth every skerrick of patience you can muster.
Onya
Woz
I guess because the other indexes and search engines didnt take more than a month to list me that it would be the same for Yahoo.
They say on their site that if I dont see a listing after three weeks, to resubmit if I want. Should I keep resubmitting every three weeks till i get listed, even though the actual response time could be several months?
Bluestreak, write to this address: url-support@yahoo-inc.com
Politely, request your site be added to the appropriate directory. State that the normal submission process hasn't worked for you. You will need to include the exact date, URL, title and description used in your last submission attempt and also include the same email address used when you filled out the form.
This is essential because this address goes to a supervisor who looks up the submital and decides whether to override the original editor's decision not to include your website.
No guarentees, but this has worked for me more than once.
