Site description - must it agree with page title ?

Will editors only look at the homepage ?

I'm about to submit a site to BizExpress. I can't do much about the title, so I've put the best keyword phrases into the description.

Will I be penalised if the keywords used in the description don't match those in the page TITLE for the homepage?

I've already optimised the homepage but I want to go for different keywords in Yahoo, so I get a different keyword audience from Yahoo, compared to the search engines.

I want the editor to look at the site as a whole, to determine the best fitting description, (the keywords I'm targeting appear on other pages more than the homepage). But will they just look at the homepage title (tag) and decide that should be the description ?

Any thoughts ?

They won't spend a ton of time on it, probably will rewrite your description (nothing you can do about it), and will take note of the title and meta description on your home page. Look at other descriptions in the category you are submitting to to get an idea of what you will get.

In that case, I think I'll just swap the page title and meta description (temporarily) for those that match the description when I submit it.

I'll wait till the site gets in, then put the original keywords back in again.

You only get one go with the description on Yahoo, and I'm not having them change it.
