Is there any way around Yahoo's fee? I need all the traffic I can get which is currently mainly Netscape, AOL and Google. Are non commercial sites with banners linking to commercial sites considered commercial. Will a couple of non commercial sites that feed a commercial site be considered?

If you're hosting banners to commercial sponsors for your site then you're a commercial site. Even so; I suggest you just pay the fee if you want to see your sites listed in any real time if ever.

Well, you could take down the banners for a month or two and try the free submit. Some people here have had luck with the free submit even recently.

Thats true. But it might cost you more in advertising, time and headaches to go with free submittal.
