Changing URL in Yahoo

Our site was dropped from Yahoo last spring, probably because I re-submitted it a few times by mistake using Top Dog. I also (in my ignorance) added our metatag description in small type (font 8 or 10) at the top of the page so maybe they saw that when I re-submitted and didn't like it.

Our site is now visually very different from the one previously on Yahoo, (but has the same title) and I want to re-submit it using a different URL (www.maui-vacation-rentals.org which has keywords in it).

The site is already on the major search engines with the URL www.4star-mauirentals.com (not a good domain name!) so maui-vacation-rentals.org would be a mirror site.

Do you think there will be a problem submitting my re-vamped site under the new domain name?

Isn't it OK to change one's URL with Yahoo? The original URL could be considered the 'mirror', couldn't it?

Finally, can you tell me if keywords in the URL make a significant difference when someone searches Yahoo? Is it worth doing this?

Thanks for the advice!

Hi namniboose,

I'm not sure if you're talking about Yahoo Google or Yahoo Directory. Depending on which one you're referring to, my answers would vary greatly.

One suggestion, if you can, change the sites a little bit because you may get in trouble if they're mirror sites. Regardless of what you're trying to accomplish, it's always a good idea to change a site 10% to avoid problems.

As to Yahoo Directory, yes you can change a URL by using their change form: [add.yahoo.com...]

Yes, keywords in URL does make a difference, especially after the latest change in Yahoo.

Hope this helps.

Hi 2_much,

I am referring to the Yahoo Directory. So there shouldn't be a problem submitting a site that is the same as but has a different URL to, my site submitted to the search engines? (just to double-check that I am understanding you!)

Thanks for your feedback.

If they are mirrors and both in the engines, one or both might get penalized. If you're going to copy the site, be sure to change it around about 10% so it doesn't get penalized.

Hi 2_Much,

They aren't both going to be in the engines. One is in the engines and I am thinking of putting the other one just in Yahoo.
