Yahoo has changed their look on the search results to throw in that green of google. It also appears that they are ranking the sites by relevance now instead of grouping by category.

I just noticed the change, they've completely restructured their SERPS. This is great!
Looks like the web pages are less accessible, and they're giving more prominence to sites within the directory.
Let's break this down.

>more prominence to sites within the directory
Which will mean that title and descriptions will be even more important.

They have had the option to view the SERP's in this manner for quite a while, they had a feedback form for users to judge the results, looks like the feedback has been positive for the new look. Assuming Google get paid per search this will hit their bottom line.

It's alternating between the two formats here at the moment. Could of course be just transitional flux as they change to the new, or the new one could be a test? Only time will tell of course.

i don't like it. takes away the prominence of directory listings and definately takes away from relevance imho. if you are searching for home loans, you can get top returns for sites offering home loans to people in bumblebee kansas.

This will reduce the importance of google by at least 20%. Directory listing wasn't very important before because results pages were cluttered and average user was more likely to go for web pages. Now, directory listings to unsuspecting user look very much like real search engine results.
Another thought: This change makes SEO less relevant.
