Way to tell which which categories get more traffic than others?

Our site is listed in Yahoo (yes!) however, we are not getting much traffic from the listing.

So, my question - is there a way to find out which categories have more traffic than others relative to each other.

Home > Business and Economy > Business to Business > Computers > Software >

vs

Home > Computers and Internet > Software >

I know this is probably a silly question - but as my old Philosophy prof. used to say - "the only stupid questions are ones not asked."

One way of getting approximate relative figures, which only works in business related categories, is to use the sponsored sites program.

Go to a category, and if there is a sponsored sites box, note down a url in that category. Then go into the sponsored sites program and it will ask you for a URL in Yahoo. Use the URL you have noted down and it should return you a figure in dollars. The higher the figure, the more traffic that category receives.

Repeat this for another category and compare the dollar values; the higher valued category probably gets more traffic. This technique will only work in Business and Economy /Shopping and Services or Business and Economy/Business to Business categories, and even then not all categories are eligible for sponsored listings.

Hi Gregg,

That's one of the best ways to do it. You can also try submitting sites to both categories with a similar title, and compare the traffic.
