if you do a quick search on a popular keyword such as <snip>, you see that some top ranked sites doesn't have the link "cache" under the link, these sites only have "more from this site" and "save" links.

why is that? i am just very curious on how can a site has no cache and still rank high.

Because some sites use the nocache meta attribute in order for search engines to not "steal" their content.

Can you tell me what the exact benefit of this attribute is?

Does it help in any other way except the way you stated?

thanks!

I have a site www.domain.com which has all its pages showed up for the command site:www.domain.com but strangely the site does not show up for the command cache:www.domain.com.

Can anyone suggest why it happens?

Placing the nocache meta attribute can help in other ways, but it really depends on the purpose of your site and its content. Some people (although rarely) do click on the cache instead of the actual link to view the page. This can change the ad relavency of both adsense and ypn, along with covering some content of your page. This could result in lower CTR/overall earnings.

However, one benifet of using the cache would be that if your server is down, a visitor can still 'view' your site by using the cache button. Of course this person couldn't go on and purchase anything from your site since it's down (which could be another reason not to allow cache if your site sells something... why show your content to someone who can't purchase something?) There could also be issues with members sites, such as allowing visitors to view the pages by clicking on the cache instead of signing up.

I'm sure there are more pros and cons to both sides, but overall it really just depends on the webmaster and how you feel about your content, the type of site you have and so on.

Well my site does not sell something other than good content.I have neither adsense or adwords to make a problem for me. So, these cannot be the issues, i would really like to know something concrete that would help me to analyze the issue.

One more information I would like to shre is that when I do a site:www.domain.com then all the relevant pages of the sites are shown.
