Trying to make sense of this yahoo update, they teased me with a number 5 position for two weeks, then poof I am gone again 3 days ago.

My site is over 2 years old and fresh non spammy content. Niely optimized etc.

Could someone explain this to me? Could this be my problem and what does it mean?

I ran a report on my site, and noticed this.

Backlinks 1

Backlinks (with www) 3,787

Pages Indexed 1,753
(includes pages of EVERY subdomain, eg. *.mydomain.com)

Pages Indexed 1,693
(includes pages of ONLY www.mydomain.com)

Curious. Check your home button. Does it link to http://example.com/index.htm or http://www.example.com/?

You should be linking home with an absolute url
:

[yoursite.com...]

not a relative url:

/

Not only does it help with canonical issues and backlink count issues, it helps against 302 redirects.

is it important to have the / at the end of .com? What trouble will I have without the / at the end?

It's supposed to save the server some processing effort. I'm not sure if it will matter to you. Maybe depends on how much traffic you have. In terms of search engine traffic, it very very likely doesn't matter. But I like to use it because I like to do things as best as possible, including validating my code.
