Permanetly on Yahoo.co.uk, ATW and Altavista is one set (appears to favour losely targeted pages - eg Directories, sitemaps over content pages) while on lots of other regional Yahoos and Yahoo.com (although .com seems to switch between the two though mainly not the .co.uk set) is the other algo.
This is driving me crazy at the moment as most people who use Yahoo in the UK seem to use the Yahoo.co.uk service.
So I have pages targetted at the UK which are number 1 in Yahoo.com, Yahoo.it, Yahoo.dk, Yahoo.sg etc etc yet in Yahoo.co.uk they appear after pages that link to the content, directories and losely targeted pages.
This does not seem to be a geo targetting issue (unless it is a very bad one) as it does not seem to have anything to do with hosting or tlds etc.
Yahoo.com seems to switch between the bad and the good results - the bad set of results seem to be permanetly on .co.uk, ATW and Altavista though - while Yahoo.it, au.yahoo.com and other regions have the good results.
But at the moment I cant access Yahoo at all :( - Although that might be me as Google has just gone down too.
Thank God the site doesnt rely on Yahoo for traffic! It also went from its own description to the one in Yahoo directory for some reason for it home page - perhaps this was some kind of penaulty?
Meanwhile, I dont know what they did at this last update but the serps on .co.uk are just plain horrible.
Prior to this update i genuinely thought Yahoo were moving in the right direction, now ive lost confidence again
there are different serps influenced from geo locations:
searching from Italy I get different serps from
search.yahoo.com
uk.search.yahoo.com
it.search.yahoo.com
BUT if I use an anonymizer software to run Yahoo.com, the SERP is a lot different... ( the closest serp is uk.search.yahoo.com).
If you like to know how you rank on Yahoo in USA you can use an anonymizer software or you can ask to someone living in USA.....
I think that the updated results are on Yahoo USA
For me 2-3 weeks ago they would always be virtually identical (I know these supposed to have been slight difference - but for me they always were very very slight)
If you go through some of the regionals though it is very very clear that there are different sets/algos in operation.
I mean why would a UK tld be number 1 in france, denmark, italy, Brazil, Singapore etc but not in the UK, ATW or Alta.
Whether we are still on the ends of an update could of course be the case. It basically looks like some countries are access computers with one set while others are accessing computers with the other set - on .com it is a bit more random perhaps due to load balancing etc?
But the upshoot at the moment is that Yahoo.co.uk has very very bad set of serps - while there are still better sets of serps in circulation.
