Yahoo US vs Yahoo International

I have a website listed in Yahoo directory and has over 100k pages indexed in Yahoo. Our target market is US, but the problem is that we have very high rankings for our keywords in Yahoo internationals, like ca.yahoo.com, but if we try the same keywords in the main US yahoo.com, we do not show up.

The thing is that the keywords that we rank #1/#2 on international yahoo are monster keywords, like overture count of a million searches.

Any ideas/recommendations?

Im having a similar problem.

My site is .co.uk and rank #1/#2 well for some keywords on yahoo.co.uk, however the same phrase on yahoo.com Im not even on the first page?

Where would I start to investigate such a problem?

Seeing the same thing here, and not sure why that is. Anyone have any ideas with more yahoo experience?

quite suprised, as this looks like quite an evident problem when doing some tests, there must be an answer surley

I noticed yesterday that these results were popping in an out of Yahoo U.S. For some reason I like the international results better. I even seen better Geo targeting or something because it shows some results from near where I live rather than a bunch of other junk.

The international results seem to be using more recently updated data. If your site is somewhat newer, this may be the reason why you aren't ranked as well in the U.S. version.

" The international results seem to be using more recently updated data."

This is what I see anyway.

I can see yahoo international seems fresher but what I am wondering is will these results eventually filter to yahoo u.s.? Or are there different algos for different countries that may make the difference of being on page 2 or 3 as opposed to page one on yahoo international?

It doesn't look like a different algorithm to me, although there could be some aspect to that (weighting links on country level domains higher, etc.) I've searched through quite a few keywords and the data just seems to be fresher on International - roughly from January or so. My guess is eventually it would filter over into the U.S. side as well, but no clue on when. It's been this way for at least a week or so.

This has been like this for as long as I can remember.

The serps we watch look real weak on the internation side. No authority sites.

Why would we think these serps are coming to the US?

yup, it's better data for us webmasters, because our websites are ranking higher. The site in question is not really that new, almost 20 months old.

I have exactly the inverse problem :

I have a french website ranking first page for a big french kw on yahoo.com. But i'm not even in the first 100 results on yahoo.fr

Looks like it's much easier to rank for the yahoo you're not interrested in!

seolole - what's the domain extension for your french site? Where is it hosted?
