The title says it all...

One of my sites was banned in Yahoo search over a year ago. Letter after letter to them has gotten me no where. Then last fall, I was invited to participate in YPN Beta. My site is also listed in the Y! directory.

Have any of you had an experience like this?

It seems that if I were invited to participate, they would want to help maximize revenue by reconsidering the search penalty.

So you applied for YPN and they let you in.

The Search division is separate, so no mystery why YPN would let you in, as they are likely evaluating different criteria.

I suspect that the mission of YPN is also very different from Yahoo Search. It would be compromising the integrity of the Yahoo Search Product to use YPN as a backdoor/boost into it's algorithm.

No different from Google Search and AdSense. Some of the stuff that AdSense lets into the program would never fly in Google Search- and it's probably unfair to reconcile the standards of one with the other as their missions are completely different.

Yes, I understand their missions are different.

But everything is so internally inconsistent. A site can be in the directory, considered one of the "most popular" in it's category, and accepted into YPN, but isn't good enough to be in the search results, or at least given a review.

This is very common. The penalty mechanisms, (algorithmic and hand) with Yahoo are not very refined, and the re-inclusion process is a hit or miss proposition. It’s an area, especially in terms of their responsiveness to people trying to get re-included; they really need to work on.
