Constantly changing Yahoo results

I've been doing more SEO work for existing clients. I'll notice that they rank #1 in yahoo for target keywords about 3 weeks after tweaking their site, but 12 hours after emailing the client to show them, they suddenly drop off of the radar again (and the Yahoo listings for their URL reflect the old title tag rather than the most recent one).

Is this typical? Should I just wait a few more weeks before presenting clients with details about their new positions?

Let me ask you something-

Why do you want to alert them to their position(s) in the first place?

In my experience, it's best that they be made aware that their positions will change (frequently). As there's no way you're able to guarantee they'll be #1 forever.

I usually try to have my clients focus on TRAFFIC and SALES rather than SERP POSITIONS.

Otherwise you'll be getting emails saying, "Hey, DXL, we're #3 for [keyword]... FIX IT!

I'm going to be charging clients to at least get them on the first page of Yahoo or Google, that being the case, I'll have to provide results. The position on the first page isn't as important and just keeping them there, but if Yahoo displays the new title tag one day and the old one the next, then I won't know when to show them the results.
