Coming and Going on Yahoo!

Eratic results forthe last two weeks.

Depending on the time of day/weather etc my site is either nowhere to be seen or No1 in the SERPS.

The Site has been No1 for its key phrase for years.

I notice that when the site is not returned, the number of results returned for the search is consistantly less (about 5%).

Has anyone else had this experience?

I suppose it is due to Yahoo having different data sets and that they may have dropped some data on one or more of them about two weeks ago.

The other scenario (too scary to think about) is that my site has suffered in a recent update and it is just taking time to spread - I really hope not.

Any ideas?

I am having a similar issue. I am number 8 or no where to be found in yahoo for a specific search term.

How long have you been seeing this? I first noticed
it around the 8th Feb give or take a couple of days.

I don't think it is due to an update. When my site
is missing all the others seem to be in about the same places.

If it was an update I would expect to see some shift between surrounding sites when I see the loss of my site. I don't see that. Just less results returned..

The results always seem fine on .co.uk by the way.

I did notice it in early Feb. I do not recall if it was exactly around the 8th though. I have a few others keywords for the same site that move at the same time, but not to the same extreme.

Mine just happen today. I was in number 6 all the sudden I am on number 31. Hopefully, I'll be back on the first page

Same thing here. My site is number one and dropped to below 50.

However when I search me logs I see traffic still for that term.

A manual search will results in finding my site first or ~ 50th on any given attempt.

Cain, Do you notice

1)Different number of results returned when your site is number #1 and when it is not?

2)Are the other sites apart from yours all the same when you look at each of the two result sets?

I am seeing the same thing, and yahoo has the site "indexed" as an rss feed. I first thought that maybe it started to dislike sites that it indexes as RSS feeds, but there are a couple of other competitors who are indexed as RSS feeds and they have maintained rankings. For about three months, until beginning of this month, it was in and out of the top 10 on a daily basis. Now it has slid back completely.

Does anyone know if this is an RSS feed issue?

When this phenomenon happens, it is a completely different set of SERP's.

Yahoo shows sites in the top 5 that were not even top 20 in the previous query.

A look now shows me as number 1 for my keyword. 3 hours ago I wasnt in the top 30.

For months I was #3 just behind "About" for a particular search phrase and then today I see I'm at #30. I dunno.

Yes, I am out of the serps again. I go from 2 to 48 on one term and from 8 to nowhere to be seen on the other.

It seems it has to do with the number of results returned, I am sure.

Looks like there are some incomplete servers out there (data drop or whatever).

If you are seeing your site appearing and dissapearing then check the number of results returned in each case.

What I have found interesting is the stable results from [sg.search.yahoo.com...] "All The Web"

Are the same results that keep bouncing back and forth for my keywords on
[search.yahoo.com...]

One site of mine that used to have hundreds of top 3 positions and somehow fell out of favor with Y, shows traffic in logs for keywords but not in Y when I check position.

So, Y is putting me in and taking me back out in a blink!
No rss feeds.

I had a #1 and #3 position for 2 very cometitive keywords - been there for about 10 months but they are now not even in the top 200 results :(

The results are also looking quite similar to the big 'G' but it seems a bit short sighted trying replicate those results rather than make their own results more superior.

I am having the same experience, sites there one moment and gone the next. I guess Yahoo has thousands of servers just like Google and I am seeing results from different databases with every search.

Count the sites returned when you are there and when you are not. Do you see a difference?

I see less results returned (about 10%) when my site is not there.

Since I have been watching this one test search like a hawk over the last month I have also noticed the number of results being returned has been increasing over the time period.

Not withsanding the "now you see me now you don't" dance with 10% less results seems to be a constant.
