Yahoo Search Goes Down - New Year's Eve

keep getting an oops! message from Yahoo

For almost the past hour I have been getting an oops! message from Yahoo. I search "sweater" for example and I get the business links but not any other search results. It says:

We ran into a temporary problem while performing your search. Please try your search again.

But no matter what I search, it keeps doing it. Just wanted to know if anyone else has been getting this too.

Yahoo search has been down for the last couple of hours. All you get is an 'oops' message along with PPC ads. Wow, this will really strain some PPC budgets.

Traffic from yahoo accross several different sites stopped just after 7:00 pm EST. An occasional user comes through, but 99% halted.

I came here in a panic thinking that they banned all of my sites simultaneously. ;)

LOL - a natural assumption, eh? At any rate, now it's about 11pm EST and things appear to be fixed. But a four hour outage is pretty scary for such an important search engine.

Now it's time for me to welcome the new year.

This is probably the quitest time possible for the search engines. If there was something that had to be done that involved shutting down a cluster for example then this would be the right time to do it.

I mean who wants to search when there's a party to go to :)

Its back for the moment, most pages are no longer cached at the moment and results for my site changed dramatically.

First thing I did, was check SERPS, and there's been substantial movement since 24 hours ago.

The cynic in me can't help wondering if they had an end of year revenue target to hit. Pulling your search results offline for a couple of hours and leaving the ads would certainly give revenue a kick!

Traffic-wise I don't think I'd notice if Yahoo was down either.
