Yahoo is just impossible to figure out. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get pages in the top 10. I even have my site in the Yahoo Directory, but that's done nothing for me, and generates zero leads. Plus, changing my site too much is dangerous. What if it hurts my Google ranking?
The only option I seem to have now is to pay Yahoo to get in the top 10. Do you think that will work? Has anyone had experience with this? I shutter to try it because just the thought of paying for results seems twisted and wrong.
The thing that really bothers me about Yahoo is that it will rank 5-6 very similar pages from the SAME site in the top 10, leaving no room for any competition or more relevant results. I have two competitors that have pages that take up every slot 1-10 for a keyword. On the other hand, Google will only rank the top 1 or 2 best pages for a keyword from a site, and it's results are 100x more relevant and focused than Yahoo.

Some have thought this to be a kind of sandbox as it can take a few years for a site to rank well.
Next is the number of backlinks. You need more backlinks and again these take a while to filter in also and show in the index.
With msn you can get any site to rank quick in a matter of weeks no matter what it is.
With Yahoo it is a waiting game. As an example three sites we worked on did not start to rank in Yahoo at all until after about 9 months longer than Google. This was after they came out of the google sandbox!
Over all i think Yahoo following this last update has made a significant step forward with its quality of results. They are currently better than ever. For the sites we work on that are still waiting to get in, at least i feel confident now that providng they dont change the algo again to much when these sites get in at least they will be with other quality sites and it will have been worth the wait.
In conclusion, i would work on a minimum of two years to rank well for a site, some may do it quicker and some longer depending on the sectors you are in.
A few months ago, if a site was over a certain K amount it was devalued.
Well that part of the algo changed. Now an exact match of title tag and h1 seems to be lessen rank.
Don't match the two and the page will do better in Y, but suffers in G and MSN.
Inbound link text and matching directory files name seems to help. Yet I shake be head in disbelief that this is really important.
Y! is really doing a good job keeping optimizers off balance to the point no one even bothers trying.
