Yahoo Virtual Hostnames Policy

Does a redirecting domain name count against me?

According to Yahoos policy, they don't want "Sites with numerous, unnecessary virtual hostnames" listed in their directory.

A few years ago we had around 10 domain names which represented the different trading names of the company. We decided to bring all of these together under one domain and we currently have 9 domains 301 redirecting to the primary domain. All 10 domains reside on the same server but we have recently dropped out of the Yahoo listings. Could Yahoo be seeing these 9 redirecting domains as "unnecessary virtual hostnames"?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Seems like it.

I consolidated 4 domains into 1 to avoid duplicate content in the eyes of the bots. And we have the Yahoo! death penalty. Only the home page listed in Yahoo Site Explorer and their crawler is all over our pages and logs.

I'm clueless as to what the best procedure is to regain a favorable view in the eyes of Mr Slurp.

filemakerguy, is this the only thing you did? I find it hard to believe that just this has gotten both of us blacklisted. Seems like madness if it is the reason. Surely it is sensible to consolidate domains.

Seems like Yahoo are acting like the SS, stomping on sites with their jackboots!
