Forgive me if this has been mentioned before, but its the first time I have noticed this.

For some searches Yahoo! now give a couple of suggestions to broaden/narrow your search at the top and bottom.

Was this always like this?

ya, it was first mentioned here when they began testing it in 2002-2003

Thanks, I just saw it today for the first time with my searches/sector, never really noticed it before. Perhaps they are extending it to new keywords.
