Is there a direct link somewhere to your CSS file other than within the usual
link
or
@import
statement? Also, if you load your CSS file directly in the browser and check the file info, what mime type is it listed as having,
text/css
,
text/plain
or something else?

<LINK rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css">

I saw it too when Yahoo burped last week. I did a site search and it only showed two listings, a random page and a css file. Other people I've spoken with have seen it happening for the last two weeks.

Any suggestions what Yahoo could be looking for in a stylesheet?

I saw it too... maybe this helps.

I've got three "templates" the site can use (the site uses mambo, which has default templates). The css file is in the templates directory. Slurp indexed all three css files that were in the template directory - even thought I've NEVER used two of the templates. (I'm lazy I guess). That is, it found the template I designed and the two default templates/

Bottom line, it did not find all three templates via links, just snooping directories. Sneakly little Slurp must be looking for something.

Probably nasty tricks some people play within their headers.

Yea, had some css files indexed myself - never linked from anywhere. I started finding them shortly after Yahoo had that massive increase in index size.

i guess this is part of the inflated number that yahoo has managed to claim.

as far as i am aware there is no interest in indexing my .css files.

For added fun, they also are indexing many of the favicons on my sites as well.

They seem to be adding anything which a <link> tag links to in the HTML. Stylesheets and RSS feeds are showing up in a site: search on my site, though as URL only.

I guess this is logical because you can have <link rel="next"> links and so on, but shouldn't they be restricting their indexing to certain rel values?

i remember reading lots of discussion about google spidering CSS files - long time ago ........
CSS can be used for lots of SEO tricks, like hiding text etc
i would guess the time and processing required to automatically check for hidden text etc would be prohibitive / impractical ........... but you never know ........
could be all sorts of other reasons for spidering CSS files ...... ummmmm .........
