How does Yahoo handle 301's?

It's Aug 2005 and Y should 301's correctly. Would you move your site?

Yahoo used to have a problem not being able to handle 301 redirects and this problem was apparently fixed late 2004. I'm considering moving a site to a closer colo and I can't help but worry if Yahoo's inability to follow a site still exists. Do people here feel safe moving sites given Yahoo's situation? Does anyone have recent success stories?

No, but I've had a couple disaster stories where I lost all Yahoo traffic. Google and MSN should be no problem, though.

I've had exactly the opposite experience with a client this summer. Yahoo (and MSN) handled the 301 just fine. Both old and new domains are not seen in Google.

I may be missing something, but if you are simply changing IP addresses and are not changing your domain name, then 301 redirects don't enter into it -- All you'd need to do is to update your DNS to point your existing domain to a new IP address...

If this is the case, best results will be had if you can arrange for both servers to be online --one at the old location and one at the new-- for up to three days. This will allow a seamless transition while the updated DNS data propagates.

Shoot, I just plain missed that. Absolutey right, JD -- if the domain name and content stays the same there should be no problem at all, and no need for any re-direct at all.
