I see Yahoo Inktomi crawling very many pages on my site. Do you too? Do you see huge Yahoo Inktomi Crawling these days? Could be before they release their upcoming YPN for publishers. They probably need to crawl as much as possible so they can have a better targed in ther upcoming Adsense type YPN.

What are you thoughts?

I have always seen Inktomisearch bot around and they seem to be coming more often lately as you said, but a new bot yst.corp.yahoo also seems to be visiting my site more and more these days! Wonder what is in the works?

Interesting. Usually after intense crawling I see better rankings.

Mine did get better! Actually it has been gradually increasing since last month.

one site of mine is a single html page of about 20K.

Unbelievably, Inktomi manages to suck about 1mb per day of data from this site.

That means it re-indexes that site 50 times per day!

What a waste of my bandwidth and Yahoo's time.

Inktomi slurp or Yahoo slurp - are they the same?

Yahoo owns Inktomi, Overture and many others!
Inktomi is a crawler database full of content and indexed sites that Yahoo purchased when they unmerged from Google. Google used to use the Inktomi database too! MSN used it for awhile too before they launched their new search.

> Google used to use the Inktomi database too!

No they didn't. Not ever. Never ever.

Yahoo used Ink, switched to G, then bought Ink and re-rolled Ink it as their own.

My mistake Patrick thanks for the correction - google has not used inktomi results in their search.
