Since the site's inception 2 years ago, I have had rules that rewrite the non-www urls to www. In doing a site:mysite search in yahoo, they have indexed the homepage without the www, but all internals are correctly indexed. However, because all inbound links point to www, the index page is not ranking highly thanks to this indexing snaffu.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Yahoo has thought i have a sub-domain on my Homepage for the last year or so, its the non www version, unfortunately despite my best efforts to get rid of the issue the index shows that I've got many inbound links coming in to the non www version of my site and this i think is the reason for the two versions being added to the index.

doesn't seem to matter that I've got a site wide redirects from non to www
I've tried asking all the sites that link in to my non www version to amended the link but to no avail theres just too many sites that link in to it.

also when i click the 'Phantom sub-domain" the link that is in the index is the correct url even tho its displayed without the www, are you having a similar experience with your site?

As a suggestion maybe looking at the inbounds and correcting any links from external sites that may have forgotten to add the www.

Vimes.

I just checked site exporer, and see the same thing, there is NO WAY they could of gotten the version of the homepage without the WWW on my site. there is a 301 in place since November 20th of 2004, it is sitting in a separate include file that has not been modified since then. Farther more every request that was made to none WWW version of the site was Redirected and I have a record of it:

2007-08-24 15:11:49 74.6.24.22 - XX.XX.XX.XX GET / - 301 403 231 390 HTTP/1.0 example.com Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+Yahoo!+Slurp;+http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/slurp) - -
2007-08-24 15:11:51 74.6.24.22 - XX.XX.XX.XX GET / - 200 13694 185 921 HTTP/1.0 www.example.com Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+Yahoo!+Slurp;+http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/slurp) - -

Cached version of the NONE WWW page has a date stamp of 08-24-2007 and IP Address 74.6.24.22 is imbedded in CACHED HTML.

No changes in overall Rankings as of Yet.
