Is the only way to get into the Yahoo directory is by paying?

no free submit?

I have a new site and I thought there was a way you could submit a site free knowing it would take a lot longer to get into the directory.

All I can find is a link to the $299 submit. Am I missing something?

Seven or so years ago I got a free listing in the Yahoo directory by submitting the site to the Canadian Yahoo and it is still in all of Yahoo's directories around the world to this day. Never have had to pay anything. No idea if that still works these days. It may depend on the topic of the site and if they need to expand the listings of the subject. BTW, the site was and still is just an information site which may also have been a factor.

I have one site there for free but that was many years ago. I have tried with other sites to get listed free over the past two years and have had no success. From what I read there is little or no chance of getting a Yahoo listing for free now.

I have sites that were listed free way back before they charged. They are still there.

Nomis, how did you even try to get sites listed free more recently? I can't find a way.

Mine is an information site about history which is why I thought it might have a chance.

Perhaps it no longer matters. Do many people even look at the directory anymore?

It is suppose to be non-commercial like music portal.

[help.yahoo.com...] has the instructions.

Thanks for the URL to make changes. I also found a 10 year old site listing that has evolved to the point that the old information, category and such made no sense at all. I'll have to check in a couple of months to see if it gets updated.

Strange, whenever I go to the directory and click on "suggest a site" I get two big boxes, one for paid submission and one for free.

Annej - I don't know if anyone looks at the directory but there are a pile of posts on webmasterworld about the value or not of a listing in Yahoo Directory. Many people think an entry in the directory is well regarded by Google and can help your PR.

That's what I always got too. But I used the link Jim posted a few messages back and that worked well. Maybe they are just making how to do free suggestions hard to find.
