A Hotlink Counts as a Backlink?

I was checking backlinks using the 'linkdomain' command and the 'Yahoo backlinks results page' displayed a page which was hot linking to an image on my site, as one of the results.

I checked the source of the page and did not find any link to my site other than the image hot link.

If someone hotlinks to an image on a website, does the website get any value in return? Image optimization may be for image search?

Imo, just my opinion, if something shows up on Yahoo's backlink search as a backlink, or not show up, doesn't mean it's counting or not counting. There have been bugs with the backlink checker in the past.
