hey all,

i am contemplating if i should splurge on yahoo directory listing....

my site is getting 80k+ visitiors a month from google and only about 3k from yahoo even though both of them have roughly the same number of pages indexed.

i am curious what will happen to my yahoo traffic after the site gets added to their directory.. i am guessing it's hard to say and depends on the market i am in, keywords targeted, etc. but in any case, if you guys have any input, i'd like to hear it

p.s. what other important sites/directories are powered by yahoo directory?

There's a chance that it may directly impact a site's position in Yahoo! if you get listed, but it can hurt your web site if they decide to use the directory's description and title because it may not fully describe your site or it doesn't include your keywords in it. Even if you do submit your web site it does not guarantee that it will be accepted for inclusion in the directory.

It does NOT guarantee a Yahoo Search position improvement. In some cases people have seen improvement in their ranking in Yahoo! search results, but some have seen no affect at all. However, depending on the category you get in, it may bring you more than enough traffic to stay in there and forget about the Yahoo's search engine ranking.

Any serious business site should be in the Yahoo Directory. First thing you should do after a domain is live.

The Yahoo directory sends about 1/10 the traffic to directory listings that it did a couple years ago. If Yahoo dropped the fee to about $39 it would be worth it but as things are now, there is little benefit for paying their rediculous annual fee.

My site is listed in the directory, but it is listed in my opinion in the wrong location. The site is listed within the business to business directory, when it should in fact be listed in another area.

How can I get the location changed or can I? I have attempted to submit a listing but it just says already listed.

Thanks.

Thanks, but unfortunately that wont work. The change form request the email you used when you first submitted the listing – that’s been over 5 yrs ago – I cant remember LOL!

WebmasterWorld has many past posts of how Yahoo! Directory provides only a directory site's abbreviated description/title; this is often is a strong disincentive to join. Ironically, until Yahoo! allows for opting out of this treatment, competitors' sites NOT paying to join continue to reflect a fuller (and more helpful to the searcher) detailed description/title.

Be cautious and consider carefully whether to join, given this wooden and misguided policy. Yhhoo's reps have said they would look into it, but no changes have ever been made.
