Does Redesigning a Website Change Rankings?

Do you think a totally new design of a site will affect my Yahoo listings, I have very good positions right now and I don't want to loose them, but we want to place a new and better converting design on our site. We are going to keep all old pages and add new ones. Anyone with experience like that?

Any time you redesign your web site it may affect your ranking. If you got a good ranking now it may be best not to mess with your web site at all, but On-page SEO is only half of the factors Yahoo! or Google use to rank your web site, so you may see nothing happen to your ranking at all.

I suggest that if you redesign your web site anyway that you keep a backup of your old web design, just in case the ranking drops, but make sure you give your new design a few weeks before you decide to keep it or not.
