ranking well in yahoo with subdomains is no different than getting the main domain to rank. I strongly advise that you don't do much interlinking with your subdomains in an attempt at getting better positions. It's very easy to get a website and all it's subdomains forever banned from yahoo because of too much cross linking, especially with subdomains.
