It would seem prudent, productive and of benefit to their users if they would communicate about why they do this, and open up a new and effective system of gaining re-inclusion. The million dollar question is why do they continue to exclude sites that do in fact meet the guidelines.
You are not banned if your pages still show up if you do a site:example.com search.
Well they have become a little more subtle about it than that. Remember the old Jeff Foxworthy act “you might be a redneck?”
Take the test!
If you enter www.domain.com in Yahoo and only the index page comes up; “You might be penalized!”
If you then click on the “more from this site” link and the additional pages that come up do not have the word “cached” after the url; “You might be penalized!”
If you take the entire title of your site, no matter how long and unique, and even place it in quotes, and search for it and your site doesn’t come up; “You might be penalized!”
If you do a site:domain.com search every day for 30 days and each day there are less pages returned; “You might be penalized!”
Of course you can take their recommended test at; [add.yahoo.com...]
specifically, “To see if a site or page is listed in the Yahoo! Search Index, enter a phrase (5-10 words) unique to the page in the search box below. Make sure to enclose your phrase in quotation marks.”, but the above one is much more accurate!
