Why Does Yahoo Only Index Roughly 40% of Site?

How Can Yahoo be Encouraged to Index More?

I am new to this forum, but I have a search problem that is very frustrating and I can't find this specific problem covered elsewhere (if it is, please let me know where to look).

My business operates an online store with 1,143 product pages plus other pages. Google lists 1,480 pages from our site (we use Google Sitemaps), however MSN shows only 719 pages in its database, and Yahoo shows only 485. In fact, our site is even hosted by Yahoo.

I haven't been able to find anyone who can explain why MSN/Live.com and Yahoo have cataloged so few of our pages. In fact, until about 2 months ago, Yahoo only had 6 of our pages cataloged! We had to submit our site URL to Yahoo, and pay for Yahoo's directory listing, before we grew from 6 pages to 485.

Because this online store has been generating 25% of its revenue through "free search", clearly the Yahoo and MSN cataloging problem is a top priority for us.

Thanks for your help!

For us Yahoo lagged behind all but Ask in indexing our site. Now Yahoo indexes better than all others. The exact order for us is:

Yahoo
Ask
MSN
G

With Yahoo, you just might need to be patient.
