When Yahoo started their own search apart from Google we lost a lot of pages. From 60,000 down to 1,500.

I know this is old news. We have limped along but all our projections for growth are out the window for the forseeable future. We were waiting for something to happen but no longer holding our breath.

It could be because of duplicate content I suppose as we have product that can be found on more than one page. It's a musician site so product can be found under the composer, arranger name(s) or under the instrument category. This is not to spam engines but to make it convenient for the customer to find it and it not unlike a grocery store putting pop on special in one isle while keeping the same product in it's regular space. If this is a big deal with the Engines then we will have to just to live with it as our customer's experience come first.

If Yahoo ever reads these posts....here are some real suggestions for ranking sites.

How about how long they have been in business... do they have a link to the BBB and for how long. What is their BBB record? Are they linked to Verisign etc. Right now I'm sick of seeing competitors 'affiliate' sites ranked much higher. Since when does affiliate sites rank higher than the actual sites that sell the product?

Also we were part of the free index back in 1998. Could this be the problem since we don't pay for the directory listing on a yearly basis? If it is we wouldn't mind paying if it meant our entire site would once more be indexed but how would you go about that? They do not say one way or the other. An answer to this question would be appreciated.

Thanks...this is a great site for information sharing
