Ok, this is awful: it seems that yahoo is no longer showing search results for keyword searches ending in ".com" ".net" ".ca" etc. They're doing what google does, and basically just acts as an address bar in this case. Anybody know if this is a permanent change? It sucks for me!

Are you referring to the Yahoo toolbar or Yahoo.com - I am still getting SERPs for .com searches:

Yahoo search: webmasterworld.com [search.yahoo.com]

Yahoo search: www.webmasterworld.com [search.yahoo.com]

Do you have a penalized site?

Can you state your problem / thoughts a little more clearly.

Apparently you are referring to some aspect of Yahoo search results that is not universal to all sites.

I tried 2 or 3 of my own sites, and they are showing up fine.

Check your toolbar and/or browser settings.

Sorry, here's what I mean. Go to yahoo: Typed in mattdrudge.com: all you get is the 1 result, or none at all... It used to contain hundreds of search results with that Keyword. That's what I mean. It was easy traffic, now it seems to be gone.

I'm seeing it with penalized sites but I've seen it before. It may be Yahoo is trying to block sites mirroring to .org or .net addresses that aren't penalized.

This change happened a couple months ago.

Previously if you searched for site.com, Yajoo would return results from all domains. Now they only return results from site.com itself.

In other words, the first few months of Yahoo, if you had a page that offered a review of site.com, you could appear in results for a site.com search. Sometime this summer (there were a couple threads about this then) they changed to "the Google way" where someone searching for site.com just got back site.com info, nothing about other pages that talk about site.com. (The exception is if a site2.com is penalized or not yet indexed, then it shows results from all domains that mention site2.com)

Anyway, this change took place months ago.

It seems to me they've stepped it up a notch and there is a difference. Now you can't find anything related to a penalized site with http:, www, or .com. Wait a week and it could be something totally different with them.

Okay, yes. the change now appears to be that penalized (or not in the index) domains are treated like non-penalized ones. Since they have no pages on the domain to display, none are displayed.

Lot of money no longer able to be made today.

This is a bad change, although it is in line with what Google does.

I'm not sure what you guys mean.

When I search for penalized sites, they simply don't appear on the SERP's.

That's how you can tell they're penalized.

If you look for link data for those penalized domains, you'll still get the data.

It's now changed back 2 Much. As I said in an earlier post give it some time and it will switch back.

It's sad to see slurp requesting pages from my site that have been gone for over 6 months now? Tons of 404's today from slurp. Also none of those pages are or have been in the serps ever? So why spider them if they never indexed them?

I suppose they will index the 404 pages now?
