Not sure if this just became available, but yahoo has a new site design in beta you can check out here:
[yahoo.com...] .

Not too far off the current, but a little cleaner IMO.

The world's most-used textbook example of junky table layout has just got a lot cleaner and minimized the use of tables. This has helped them seriously trim some fat: total page size is about the same - in non-gzipped form, about 35K - but the new page has all the javascript and css in-line, as is typical for beta pages, and linking these off could result in a page about half the size. Validation isn't much better, but three cheers for a trimmer page!

Yahoo also seems to be waking up to the fact of more users with larger screen resolutions - the new version uses larger text size, which does the eyes a wealth of good if you're on hi-res. Much cleaner, much easier to read, but still the same basic yahoo look'n'feel.

Notes on checking this out: you'll want to run two different browsers or one browser under different profiles - the new yahoo sets a cookie so you won't be able to go back to the new one. Browsers will typically give you gzipped size if you click for 'info', but this is misleading here - the 'old' yahoo gzips down to a much smaller size because of the many repetitive <font> tags and other such old cruft. Save the files if you want to see their size non-gzipped.
