It seems as though the time is here for any entity with the resources to bump Google off the top spot. The combined properties of Yahoo, Overture, Alta Vista, et al. definitely have the resources to put it all together, but they have yet to step up to the plate.
Dissatisfaction seems to be spreading amongst adsense publishers and Yahoo could easily reap huge benefits if overture offered the everyday webmaster the opportunity to participate in contextual advertising. I just dropped Google even without a suitable replacement. The pittance they are now offering has become more of an insult than an income. While I used to feel GoogleGuy would do his best to help any webmaster having legitimate problems with Google indexing, he is nowhere to be found and all we hear are terms like collateral damage being ok. Yahoo seems to be interested in helping those that ask. They haven't lost any of the search marketshare since switching to their own results (for my sites anyway) and are only a couple bug fixes from being the webmaster favorite.
Come on Yahoo. It's your time at the plate and the bases are loaded.
