Why is the listing of my site changes by the hour on Yahoo?

I was really happy when my new website got listed under the Yahoo! WebPages.

Next day all references to my site has dissapeared. Could not find one single page... In the afternoon my site was listed again. By the evening the site was taken off again. First thing in the morning : I check the listing on Yahoo... sure my site was there again. Few hours later, cant find one single subdomain. Why on Earth my site keep being listed and not listed... How often would yahoo refresh its index ? Do they refresh it like many times a day ? Am I seeing a catched page ? I deleted all the cookies, but still get listed for a few hours then taken off, then listed again, then taken off... Im going crazy or what ?

Is there a simple explanation to this ?

Thx in advance...

Laszlo

Are you sure you found your page under the heading "WebPages" (a page with a Google as well as a Yahoo! logo on the top?). If this is the case you are looking at at a listing from the Google search engine, not from the Yahoo! directory.

Sites that are included in the hand-picked Yahoo! directory are gathered under the heading "WebSites".

Yahoo! will feed searchers data from the Google search engine, if it cannot find a relevant hit in its own database.

If the results from Google vary, this may be caused by Yahoo! querying different sections of the Google database every time (can't guess why, though) or that they are changing from one version of the database to a new updated index.

By the way, the Google index used by Yahoo! is smaller than the one used by the Google site at www.google.com.

So, it might be that your site is not listed in Yahoo! after all. Sorry about that!

perkoch, Lazlo, welcome to the board.

That was my thought too, that Lazlo was looking at the Google results. When they update, they can fluctuate for awhile as databases are updated.

Yeah I am aware that I am not listed with yahoo, but when I try to search for my site under the "WebPages", sometimes I am listed other times I am not... I just can't figure out why..... Listed for half a day, then taken off for half a day, on and off.... the same search from the same page.... hmmmm like they can't make up their mind....

Thx for the reply perkoch.

Actually, YAHOO! web SITES sems to be going through a juggling period right now (at least the ones I've been watching) and Google as well. Google fluctuates for a while= 4-5 days sometimes, not exactly sure but in the end it always settles back down till the next update.

Have just noticed a similar problem:

New site listed through Bizex on 29 March and appeared in category a few days later - no problem.

This morning, the site isn't listed in the category.
Yet if I do a normal search based on relevant keywords, the site is found with the correct category subject.

Have tried various drill-downs to check whether the site hasn't been moved to a different category without luck.

Anybody with ideas on what may be happening here?

Hi FreeBee,

Send me a stickymail with your URL and I'll take a look at it, see if I can find anything for you.

perkoch, Lazlo,

It definitely sounds that this is connected with the fact that Google is updating. Google's results are still fluctuating, so that may be why your results on Yahoo's webpages are fluctuating as well.

I'd suggest keeping an eye on your listings until Google finishes updating.

Also, if you ARE listed in Yahoo's directory, also keep an eye on your listing...recently we've had a few sites that have been dropped due to technical problems on their end.

Have just received a prompt reply from Bizex advising that there've been some changes in the category and the site has been moved.

I'm happy with the outcome here. It'll no doubt take a few days for the update to appear.

2_much: URL sent FYI - thanks for the offer to check out.
