Hi,

A year ago I used the TerraLycos InSite™ Search Engine Submission system to put several URL's in to Inktomi.

It is now up for renewal, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to get in to the Inktomi index.

If I don't renew, will my URLs get dropped from Inktomi?

I have other URLs listed in Inktomi without having done anything and would obviously prefer not to have to pay for these ones again...

Before paying, maybe wait and see if they don't get dropped. But if you can't take the risk and want to pay you'll need the Overture Site Match program. You can sign up at: [positiontech.com ] or [infospider.com ]

There were 6 resellers on launch of OSM.

You may wish to shop around a little bit because there are some promotions are available. Sticky me for details.

Don't waist your time with Sitematch. Its expensive and I've yet to see the value added proposition that justifies the expense.

I agree. Don't waste your time with Sitematch. Especially if you feel you may have some penalty from Inktomi. Inktomi ruined all chances for success for Yahoo. I hope the powers-that-be open their eyes to this. For now, focus on Google. Google allows their algorithm(s) to objectively analyze the web without uninformed "editors" distributing random/subjective editorial penalties.

agree with the others.

It is better to spend your money on adwords, yahoo directory listing, business.com listing and so forth.

I've never thought that I have a penalty from Yahoo.

I get good traffic from my Yahoo listings, but as I mentioned my original submission is up for renewal.

All I want is to make sure I stay in the index... and whether or not it is worth paying TerraLycos again....

I think I am going to risk it and not pay for the resubmission... and see what happens.

dillonstars,

One thing to remember is, Yahoo_Mike has said that 99% of their index is from the free crawler. In other words, if your site is "well found" by the free crawler because of quality incoming links to your site, then you will stay in the index for free. If you are getting traffic from Yahoo without paying for SiteMatch, then you will continue getting the traffic from the Ink portals as well after your expiration date. That is my understanding anyway.

Any ideas how long? I would rather just pay and know that I will be included for the next year...

dillonstars,

If your site is going to be found by the Yahoo free crawler, chances are it already has been (based on your first post that indicates your urls are at least a year old which should be long enough to obtain quality incoming links and be discovered by the free crawler). Once your Ink subscription expires, you will remain in the serps of Inktomi portals without you ever noticing a change.

A test to see if you are found by the free crawler is if you are currently listed in the Yahoo serps. Yahoo stopped using Ink data on April 15. If you have been found by the free crawler and are not using Sitematch (and are currently listed in Yahoo serps) you should continue to get Inktomi distribution after your subscription expires. Confusing I know.

If you are not currently showing up in Yahoo serps, then you may have to pay for sitematch.

Yahoo bought Inktomi, right? Please explain about Yahoo not using Inktomi data any more?

Yes, Yahoo purchased Inktomi. However, prior to the launch of SiteMatch, Yahoo never used Inktomi data; it used Google. Yahoo only showed Inktomi data for a brief period after the launch of SiteMatch back in February. They called this brief period a "bonus" that lasted until April 15. I hope that answers your question. Do a webmasterworld search for more information on Sitematch if this doesn't answer your question. We are discussing old news at this point.

If you do anything, just renew the existing arrangement but don't do SiteMatch. No need to incur the click fees, and get a review that may affect rankings negatively.
