I use a revision tagging method of tracking when search engines include particular pages, so if I search for pages indexed with the latest version via:
mydomainname.com version17
And I then search for the most recent version of pages via:
mydomainname.com version16
I expect to see completely unique results for each search because "version17" and "version16" are mutually exclusive. However, Yahoo is currently displaying my SiteMatch URLs within the "version17" search and the same exact URLs are appearing within the "version16" search, albeit with 3 week old content! ****?!?
This is either a bug, or it strengthens a suspicion of mine... And this suspicion is that Yahoo! considers a SiteMatch URL as a URL distinct from it's "SERP" counterpart. This would help explain why the handful of SiteMatch URLs I purchased are all showing in the top 5 for many target SERPs, yet the other thousand SERP URLs of mine are absolutely nowhere to be found even though they use the same content structure. It also helps strengthen many other folks assumptions that their site penalities are not cleared by SiteMatch, because of this distinction. It also helps strengthen the argument that SiteMatch URLs are indeed given a boost in ranking despite claims to the contrary.
Maybe I'm drawing too many conclusions about this, it being Friday and me having overworked myself this week :) Here's to hoping that the noticeable changes at Yahoo today are addressing at least some of these issues.
