Is Yahoo using Google database again?

I've noticed today (all day) that the results in Yahoo are identical to Google. Is Yahoo using Google database again? If so, why?

I see Y! results. Open up 2 windows and run a few searches, it's pretty clear that they are not the same.

For my targeted keywords it is not the same.

It seems easier to me to rank fine in Yahoo.

I have noticed they are identical, if not very, very similar. We ranked great for many keywords (1,2 or 3) and with this shuffle we cannot be found. Anyone have insight?

I can tell you from Thailand at least on my tests of numerous keywords that the results are very different from G's.

One search even brought up one site 6 times in the first page of results!

Mind you I would keep in mind this 301 problem with Y.

They have said they are working on it and so I am sure that there will be changes in the future.

We have a site that has well over 20,000 pages in Y and where we used to rank very well for the past 7 years (with around 5000 refs/day) are now nowhere to be seen in the SERPS.

One test search I did brought back a result of a domain I purchased through Network Solutions with a forward option attached - so this site which does not exist (only domain name purchase with forwarding through NS) but which I own was showing the title and secription etc of the main site (the one it was being forwarded to).

I expect there will be a lot of changes on Y for the next few weeks/months.

Absolutely same results from Turkey. I tried several keywords, all are same.

From Turkey we see Google results on Yahoo.

I have checked results on our server located in USA. Yes it shows different results, not from Google.

But its is really bad, because we can not check our positions in Yahoo. Too bad :(

I just checked the Yahoo serps for my most important search phrase, on their main site, and the Yahoo French, Indian, and Australian versions. I only did searches that were world-wide, ie, not specific to those countries, and the searches were in English, the language of my site.

I checked the results against Google each time, and the results were sometimes almost identical to Google, and sometimes fairly close.

This is a big deal for me, as I while I have been doing very well in the Google serps, while being nowhere on Yahoo, as of about an hour ago I am doing equally well on both. I suspect that there may have been an algorithm adjustment at Yahoo, but what do I know .....

For the past few days, Yahoo has been serving me Google results (actually, that made me realize how much I miss this nice, clean presentation of Google's SERPs that we used to see on Yahoo...).

The phenomenon is not IP-based, since I get the normal Yahoo results if I use a different browser on the same computer, or if I login as a different user. Thus, I assume it will stop if I clean my cookies, but my question is: why? Any theory?

When you arrive to yahoo's landing page your cookie dialog session tells them you would like to see those results ..which apparently are on a hosted page still referring to google which yahoo has forgotten to kill the link for ....

Weird... I just checked from here ( France ) some are just like Google ...some are not and this on my own sites ...
( the interface for the cache looks exactly it did when they were powered by google )

there are no dates on the cache?

Doesn't Yahoo have a representative who scans this forum just like GoogleGuy in the Google forum.

If so, can they shed some light on what is happening with Google results showing up periodically in Yahoo.

I am now seeing something that resembles a hybrid of Google and Yahoo results in Yahoo. Yet, I can still see normal Yahoo results when I go to a different computer.

As I expected, clearing my cookies got rid of this problem for me. Still, the question remains: why is this happening?

Yes i saw the same. The results were identical for few hours yesterday.

I too saw near Google results (all day - July 1) in Yahoo!

I then cleared my cookies - and they are now gone.

Inspite of what I wrote before suggesting how it could be a "hang over cookie effect" ..I personally clear mine everytime I close the browser ..So when I see that "Y" looks a lot like "G" from France ..it can't be the cookie issue ...Strikes me that some of you were having that ...but that maybe they are tweaking closer to "G"..

BTW.. this applies to google in French and google in English ( fed from the states ..in as much as one can be sure with load balancing as it may be coming out of Ireland or Switzerland )..where "y" is sending me it's results from I didn't look up ...as I never use it for search ..just go there sometimes to see what it's doing ..

same thing happened to me about a month ago. could not believe my eyes. posted here thinking i'd found something new..... nope, somehow ended up with a cookie, and was seeing cached results from many moons ago.

as "interesting" as the y! results are right now, going back to google would be an improvement.

From where I live in one part of Florida the results are indentical to Googles. For many terms we watch. Then a family member of mine who lives in Florida still sees the Yahoo index as its been for months now. Very strange but something IS going on!

P.S. Just cleared my cookies and long behold - I see the apparent "Y" results now. This is strange!

I have noticed that yahoo uses google results most of the time if the search term is a domain name. "domain.com" ... I have not checked recently, but it has always been proof to me that they can turn on google results any time they want. They are probably just doing testing/tweaking to get their results to be as good as Google's.
