Yahoo penalized my page!

5 pages with similar layout and stuff but 1 penalized!

We sell widget products. We have pages for all the widgets we sell.
All the product pages of our site has similar layout. 50 - 60% of the text is different on all the pages depending upon the product. Rest of text is same bc it talks about how to buy and other common stuff.

Linking is good and we are doing decent in most of search engines.
When yahoo changed we tooka little bit of hit but we were doing ok for most of our compeitive search terms. But I noticed that for one of our competitive search term we are nowhere. That was weird bc we have build our site taking in to consideration that we dont do any kind of mistakes or illegal activites. So I dont understand what might be the reason.

Just to throw it in we rank in top 3 for that keyword in google for a long time now.

Any suggestions?
If I have to report to yahoo how can i do that?

How do you know its a penalty and not that you just rank poorly for that particular keyword?

be thankful you are in Yahoo and ranking on certain key words.

they couldnt care less that you think you should have a higher rank for a particular key word that you deem to be important

I am guessing its a penalty because my other pages are not affected when they are being made ont he same basis. I Am guessing its some kind of penalty. I belive int his that if your page is good and ranks decently in most of search engine then it should for others also. I have made pages thinking all about customers and my same page is great in google for so long and other pages who are doing good in google are doing good in yahoo. Jus this page is now here and I have no idea why.

cabos is right, youre worrying about an algo effect, when you are penalised they will ban every page for life. You dont even need to have done anything actually illegal, you just need to be outside their moving goalposts.

However your example is no analogy at all. If you get done for speeding and dangerous driving you dont a get a lifetime ban and you also are told about it. A better analogy would be getting up in the morning to find NO car. You search high and low for it and by sheer chance you find a forum for car nuts that has a notice saying if you lost your car it may have been confiscated by the local self elected police force. So you ask the self elected police force (SEPF) why. They say we aint telling you but rest assured you are outside our guidlines on the use of a highway. Then you take the bus home while watching the SEPF driving at 200mph down the wrong lane of a highway!

How about this. You are riding down the super information highway and everything is fine. But all of sudden with no notice, the highway is closed and you are forced to suddently exit. The Yahoo marhall at the bottom of the ramp removes your tag and explains in short abrupt terms that you are not allowed back on the superhighway. He cities wrong doing but you will have to go the courthouse to reasearch the guidelines. He turns to leave with no further explaination. He hears your desprite pleas for help, but gives no encouragement that you will ever be able to get back on.
